Summer Towing Tips

Summer Towing Tips

Summer is right around the corner! Temperatures are going to start rising again, days will be long, nights will be short, and people will be out on the roads more often. No matter the season, there can always be problems that arise while driving. With the summer heat our vehicles are more likely to have issues, some worse than others. So we here at Chancey’s wanted to take the opportunity to give you a few tips about problems that can occur while driving and when it is time to call in a tow truck.

  1. Overheating- If your vehicle has a poor cooling system, or the cooling system is failing, being exposed to higher temperatures can cause your vehicle to overheat. The best thing to do when your vehicle overheats, or you think it is overheating, is to pull over to the side of the road, turn your hazard lights on and call a tow truck. You can reach us here at Chancey’s by calling our tow service: (706) 796-1642.
  2. Battery Issues- The hotter it gets outside the more heat your engine gives off while running. This can cause issues with your battery trying to cool itself down. When your battery doesn’t cool itself down quick enough it can cause battery failure, or a dead battery. If your battery dies while you're driving, make sure you turn your hazard lights on and call the nearest towing service.
  3. Tire Pressure- After winter, when the weather starts getting warmer and the pavement starts heating up the air in our tires expands. This is a normal thing, but sometimes this can cause your tires to blow. There are a few things to remember if this happens. Stay calm, DO NOT step on the break, steer the vehicle as straight as possible, take your foot off the accelerator and let your vehicle slow down naturally, turn on your hazard lights, while slowing down steer towards the right side of the lane, and pull over when it is safe to do so. You can then call Chancey’s towing service to come and assist you. Another issue with tires that can occur is getting a flat tire rather than having a blown tire. When this happens you can call Chancey’s towing service to assist you and get help with putting your spare tire on. If you know how to put on a spare tire on your own, then the next step  you’ll want to take is to get your vehicle home on the spare tire and get a new tire as soon as you can.
  4. Take Care of Yourself- Just like in the winter, you need to be prepared in the summer for problems to arise when driving. Have water on hand in case you are waiting for a while until help can come. Make sure you take care of yourself in the high temperatures of summer, try to wear light colors and cool clothing if you are going on a long trip. With the heat people are more prone to heat exhaustion and even heat stroke. Be prepared in the case of an emergency.
