Winter Vehicle Essentials

Winter vehicle essentials

With winter right around the corner we wanted to take some time to discuss winter vehicle essentials.

Vehicles can break down at any given time, accidents happen, weather can affect your visibility, and so many other scenarios. It is best to always be prepared. Being prepared in the winter is especially important because the temperature can be a hazard if you’re stuck on the side of the road for an extended amount of time. So let’s dive into what will help you stay warm and safe in the winter.

  • Ice scraper and snow brush- Having these items in your car throughout winter can help you get to where you need to go in a quicker time.
  • Shovel- Have a shovel to scoop your vehicle out of the snow.
  • Clothing- Keep extra clothing in your vehicle such as gloves, extra sweaters, coats, hats, socks, and pants ensures you have extra warmth and protection from the snow if you are stuck on the road and don’t have access to heat.
  • Blanket- Keeping a blanket in your vehicle is another way to ensure your safety and warmth in the case of a breakdown.
  • Emergency flares and reflectors- During winter storms, it can make visibility difficult. Keeping things like reflectors and emergency flares can help others see that you are stopped on the road during a storm and can also alert people that you might be in need of help.
  • Rock salt, sand, or cat litter- These are all great for when the roads get icy. You can use any of these items to help melt the ice and help your tires regain traction.
  • First aid kit- Having a first aid kit in your car isn’t just for the winter, keeping one in your vehicle year round is a smart idea. You never know when it will come in handy.
  • Flashlight- Keeping a flashlight in your vehicle at all times is also a good idea. In the case of something happening during a drive in the dark, having a flashlight will come in handy.
  • Phone charger- Phones play a huge part of our everyday lives. Keeping an extra phone charger in your vehicle ensures that you will be able to contact someone for help if you are ever in need of it.
  • Water and snacks- Keep a few water bottles and snacks such as granola bars just in case you are stuck on the side of the road but help won’t be able to get to you in a while. This will help you stay hydrated and keep your energy up while also curbing any hunger.

All of the items listed above are just some of the main things that we, here at Chancey’s, believe are essential for the winter months.
