Maintaining your AC and Heating

Maintaining your AC and Heating

Did you know that having maintenance to your vehicle's heating and cooling systems should be done regularly? It is for the best interest of you and your vehicle to make sure both systems are working properly, especially during seasons where you’ll be needing them. In this blog we are going to go over some reasons why maintaining your vehicle's heating and cooling systems is important.

  • Visibility- During the winter nights, it can get cold enough that you will wake up with frost on the windshield of your vehicle. While using an ice scraper can help take care of this problem, the best way to get the frost off of your windshield is to use your heat! This allows the ice to melt off of the windshield and allows you to stay warm instead of standing outside trying to scrape all of the ice off. A similar thing happens to vehicles in the summer as well, but rather than freezing, the humidity in the morning causes the windshield to fog up. Using your vehicle’s AC will clear up the fog and give you visibility in no time.
  • Heating system=Cool engine- How does the heating system make the engine cooler? While a lot of the heat will be released from the engine through the exhaust, not all of it goes away. During the high heat in the summer, your vehicle runs a bigger risk of overheating. If you run your heat in the vehicle, it helps move the heat from inside of your engine to the interior of your vehicle, helping the engine stay cool and prevent overheating.
  • Clean air- When you get your heating and cooling systems checked, mechanics will take a look at the air cabin filter. This filter allows clean air to get into your vehicle while filtering out things like dirt, pollen, and bacteria. Having regular maintenance on your heating and cooling systems ensures that this filter will be regularly maintained as well.
  • Saves money- Properly maintaining your vehicle can reduce costly breakdowns. Having maintenance done on a regular basis will extend your vehicle's life and costs less in the long run compared to having your AC breakdown and paying for a repair.
  • Comfort- Obviously if your AC or heat does not work properly, it can make driving in the hot summer and bitter winter a miserable experience. Not only does it make you either uncomfortably hot or cold, but it can also be dangerous. You, along with your vehicle can overheat during the summer and freeze in the winter. Having regular maintenance on both systems and making sure they work properly can keep you safe and comfortable.
